New Toy Time
Have just bought myself another Pocket PC after I got rid of the Dell Axim X5 last Autumn.
Now I have an Axim x30 with built in Bluetooth and WiFi.
I'm running a Sony Ericsson P900 as my personal phone with a T610 as my work phone....
Laptop is a Dell Latitude D600.

Recent Changes
OK so I haven't posted for over 7 months but some big changes have gone on. Whilst I am still an IT tech hopefully it will not be for too long. I am now 4 months into a 3 year plan that will see me studying Nursing in 2007. Then I can hopefully get into immediate or critical care!

This is exactly what WiFi is designed and should be used for in my opinion.

I'd always wondered why a CD held 74 minutes of music.....
Memex 1.1
I have also heard a story about why the 8mm cassette was the size it was. Allegedly the head of Sony threw a cigarette packet on to the table during a meeting about the new format and said make the cassette that size...

Am in a bit of a quandary now. I bought an Orange SPV at the beginning of the year with the idea of using that as an all in one device. It kind of worked and everything seemed fine but then I won a Dell Axim X5 Performance in a raffle at a work event. Having this around just showed the shortcomings in the Smartphone model. Like the lack of a decent input method. Note taking and writing was a nightmare. So I have now basically retired the SPV. The Axim is my PDA of choice and I use a Samsung cell phone. I have a Nokia 6310 as my work mobile so that provides my Bluetooth links to GPRS.
The problem is this. What phone do I buy to replace my SPV? I am tempted by the Ericsson t610 but I'm sure that something better must be coming out soon. Will keep you posted.

This is a really good game for the Pocket PC. Has been keeping me busy!!
Warfare Incorporated: Full-out real-time strategy in the palm of your hand
Busy day yesterday.
Went to London on business for the new project I am working on - a rollout of Win XP across all the desktops at the bank where I work. Makes a change from support but I don't think I'm cut out for the politics of project work full time.
Have got the Bluetooth CF card working in the Axim and can now fire up a GPRS link on my Nokia 6310 (company mobile). Messenger works fine, email too. Web browsing should be interesting as well!
Next step is to get a USB Bluetooth dongle and set it up on my laptop. Will then be able to pick up emails just about anywhere - I can even get a Vodafone GPRS session in the technology blackhole that is my in laws house.

Sounds interesting - connect to your PC via PDA over GPRS etc.
Personally I was going to set something similar up using Citrix Metaframe and my Axim.
Smartner aims to squash Blackberry
Not been keeping this up to date have I??
Well here goes.
Main techie changes are that my Axim is now WiFi'ed. I also have a CF Bluetooth card to go in to talk to my work mobile which is a Nokia 6310. The SPV has been sidelined and replaced with a Samsung mobile. I think I may sell the SPV so keep an eye on Ebay!!
As far as work goes I am now working on a deployment project to deploy XP to all the 4500+ desktops on campus. My role is to look after the technical infrastructure that supports these desktops - NDS, AD etc. I'll be returning to the day job as the Citrix Support team leader either at the end of this year or in March 2004.
